A medical device company was receiving consumer complaints and bad reviews for their devices because the expected battery life was less than what was expected. Consumers were upset because they would have to purchase a new device sooner than required.
The company discovered that their devices were leaking power while they were sitting on the shelf and needed a way to test this and prevent it from happening.
CSC was able to design and fabricate a system that is designed to measure and inspect the amount of current leakage in the device's batteries while in a storage or shelf-mode. The tester also measures battery stack voltages as well as active current. It able to test multiple versions of the product.
For the battery voltage measurements, a data acquisition module with analog inputs is used. The entire test procedure and all associated parameters are controlled from the custom GUI software which also displays and stores measurement results.
Some features of this project are:
The client is successfully able to test their devices to ensure the consumer is receiving a fully charged battery. This lead to better reviews and increased use. CSC has manafactured and delivered over 8 systems.
