Customer Need

The customer required an improved method of marking filtration products to accommodate an increase in production. Cylindrical filter cores required laser engraved serial numbers and etched stickers with a barcode to allow for easy identification of products. The unique shape of the products required custom fixtures that could be easily interchanged by operators for products of various sizes and geometries.

Solution

To meet all requirements, CSC designed and constructed an enclosure that would automatically mark products and etch stickers simultaneously to streamline the production process. The process used a wide area CO2 laser with 3D actuation to mark cylinders with serial numbers and engrave stickers that were placed in the input shelf. Custom interchangable fittings were designed to hold products in place while they were marked.

The process was overseen by operators through the integration of a digital HMI. A barcode scanner was used to automatically input the serial number set of the parts being marked. Operators could also input custom serial numbers for unique marking batches.

The enclosure is a class one laser marking enclosure compliant with FDA safety standards. The system includes fume extraction and safety glass to protect operators.
